KFA Design Principles and Philosophies

Client-centered Design

At KFA, the design process begins with understanding our clients. We study program needs, land qualities, zoning restrictions, and client preferences. This holistic approach ensures that our buildings not only meet practical requirements but also reflect the values and aspirations of our clients. Through thoughtful design, we create spaces that are expressive, elegant, and enduring.

Visual Styles

We believe that architectural styles are tools for expressing ideas. At KFA, we adapt and blend styles to create buildings with character and harmony. By balancing proportion, readability, and interest, we design structures that are both visually striking and inherently cohesive.

Sustainability

Rooted in our love for nature, we are committed to sustainable building practices. We believe in integrating human structures with their natural surroundings, creating homes that complement rather than dominate the landscape. Our goal is to mitigate the environmental impact of building while enhancing the beauty and functionality of the spaces we create.

Community

Sandpoint's vibrant community is a key inspiration for our work. We design spaces that support social interactions and the simple pleasures of daily life. By fostering connections through architecture, we enhance the communal experience and contribute to the overall well-being of our clients and their guests.

Pro-bono/Charity

At KFA, we are passionate about giving back. We welcome opportunities to engage in projects with non-financial value, supporting causes that align with our values and expertise.

Fitzpatrick Keller Architecture Portfolio

Welcome to the annotated portfolio of KFA Architecture. This collection comprises essays, images, and background information for those who wish to delve deeply into KFA’s design philosophy, as well as for those with a general interest in the art of architecture.

This portfolio is available in PDF format, which we encourage you to print and enjoy in a comfortable setting, perhaps with a cup of good coffee. Our aim is to make this an engaging and insightful read. The images and essays have been arranged according to our creative vision, rather than any strict chronological order, to tell a compelling story through the medium of architecture. We hope to inspire new ideas and perspectives on the world we inhabit.

The first half of this portfolio is dedicated to essays, while the second half is a visual journey through our work, featuring photos and images that illustrate our unique approach to design.
